Members must have an established handicap to qualify to play in a Special Event except for the Fewest Putts event.
In all Special Events, except the S&H Classic, members compete based on a flight that is determined by their handicap. See the Calculating Flights
webpage for details.
In the Fewest Putts event, members compete within their flight (new members playing in the Fewest Putts without a handicap will compete in the A-Flight) and winning members are determined by their gross scores.
In the Four Club event, members compete within their flight but winning members are determined by their net scores (gross – handicap). In the Scramble, the teams generally include one member
from each Flight (an attempt is made to equalize the total handicap for all teams) and the winning team is determined by their gross score. In the 2-Flight Scramble, there are two independent scramble
events: one for A & B Flight members and the other for C & D Flight members. The teams in each of the 2-Flight Scramble events generally include two members from each Flight (an attempt is made to equalize
the total handicap for all teams in each event) and winning teams are determined by their gross scores. In the S&H Classic event, flights are not used and winning members are determined based on their net
scores (gross – handicap). Members not qualified to play in a Special Event can be assigned an Open Play tee time available immediately following the event. A non-qualified member playing with a Special Event group must
record their score on a separate scorecard to ensure that the score may be used in determining the member’s handicap.
Descriptions and rules for each event are located on other webpages
The Special Events Committee reviews all event scorecards. Members whose scorecards are illegible or filled out improperly will be disqualified from the event.
A member’s score will be checked only when in contention for points. An overstated score will not be changed. Scores not totaled or understated will disqualify that member.
Members listed on the scorecard other than those assigned by the Pairing/Tee Time Committee or reassigned by the Pro Shop will disqualify that member and their team in team events.
The Special Events Committee is responsible for determining the winners and runners-up and for calculating the points earned. The names of all winners and runners-up and the points awarded for an event
along with the year-to-date points are posted on the SGC bulletin board and League’s website.
League registration fees provide the cash for Special Event prize money. The League uses a system documented in the Special Events Guide to award points to the winners and runners-up of Special Events. Points are awarded to the members having the best rounds (lowest scores) in each Special Event. The League Committee determines the dollar value per point before the season starts.
All Special Event prize money is paid to members at the Awards Banquet. Prize money winners who are not present at the Awards Banquet must claim their money prior to
November 1st with a current ID. Unclaimed prize money will be forfeited and will revert to the League treasury. Detailed instructions on where and when their prize money can be claimed will be
included with the Awards Banquet reservation form.
Trophies are awarded to all first place winners in the Fewest Putts, Four Club and S&H Classic events. Special Event trophy winners except for the S&H Classic winner have the option to receive $10 cash instead of a trophy. A trophy winner must notify the Awards/Trophy Committee that they want to receive $10 cash instead of a trophy as soon as possible after the Special Event and prior to the S&H Classic. Trophies (or $10 cash) are awarded at the Awards Banquet. Winners who are not present at the Awards Banquet must claim their trophy or cash prior to November 1st with a current ID. Detailed instructions on where and when their trophy or cash can be claimed will be included with the Awards Banquet reservation form. Unclaimed trophies or cash will be forfeited and will revert to the League.
Sign Up and Show Up.
Members who sign up to play in a Special Event and then do not show up negatively affect the qualification status of the other members of their assigned group or team. Please don't sign up for a Special Event unless you are totally committed to play in the event. If there are unforeseen circumstances that prevent you from playing in a Special Event you signed up to play in, please call the golf course Pro Shop as soon as possible.
A Special Event is official and points are awarded if 50% or more of the members who signed up to play complete their round. If less than 50% of the members who signed up to play complete their round,
the event is cancelled and rescheduled for the following week. The Scramble and the 2-Flight Scramble are the only events that will be cancelled for "cart path only" days and rescheduled for the following week.
Open Play golf will be available if the Scramble event or the 2-Flight Scramble event is cancelled. If a Special Event is cancelled, the League will notify the SGC Pro Shop and post a notice on the League's website.
League members who want to play in a rescheduled event must sign up again
. If a Special Event is cancelled two weeks in a row, the event will not be rescheduled, and the money
designated for that event will go toward prizes at the Awards Banquet.
