January 10, 2010 -- Happy New Year Senior Golfers!

The only good thing about the snow that currently blankets the course is that it's forcing the grass to take a well-deserved rest before the senior golf clubs of spring start beating on it once again.

The 2009 Golf Season is now in the Yearly Archive. We are currently working on the 2010 Golfer's Guide and Schedule, which should be completed by March. Upcoming important dates are:

  • March 2 - Committee Meeting; CRC at 9 a.m.
  • April 6 - Organization/Registration Meeting; CRC Gym at 1 p.m.
  • May 4 - First Day of Golf
Keep thinking Spring!!!

November 27, 2009 -- 2009 Year in Review Ed Kelby

The League was started 33 years ago. Long before many of our members knew what senior or even Medicare meant. Over the years, the League membership has steadily increased to our current membership of 213. Once a local senior golf league, we now have members from 25 different suburban cities. This year, 38 new members joined the League. Almost one third of the League members are women. The League age brackets are:

  • 17% are 55 - 64
  • 52% are 65 - 74
  • 26% are 75 - 84
  • 4% are 85 plus
The weather, like last year, started out cool and the temperature didn't get in the upper 70's until late in June. Members signed up for over 3500 rounds of golf at Schaumburg Golf Club and Walnut Greens. 1564 members participated in the 50-cent chip-in-pot with 92 chip-in winners sharing $782. On the average, 164 members signed up for each of the 6 Special Events. 133 winners of these events shared almost $2300 in prize money and the top players in each of these events received a trophy. For members whose game was a little below par but had wished their score was, Pepi Irwin, Director of Golf Operations, provided 4 one-hour Golf Clinics to improve their games.

It's through the time and efforts of the Committee volunteers throughout the years that make the League what it is today. Many thanks to the volunteers who this year handled Finances, Membership, Registration, Tee Times, Handicaps, Chip-in-pot, Special Events, Public Relations, Awards Banquet, Donations, Trophies, Photos and Website. If you're interested in meeting new people, willing to share your talents and time, think about joining one of the Committees.

Have a great Holiday and a Happy, Healthy New Year!!!
